Speaking of love, that's me in the photo with my rescue dog Millie, who is probably a Bichon. I adopted her when she was 1 and now she is 7. She's made my life better in so many ways. I love her very much...and she loves me back.

Millie is quick to learn new human words.

Her favorites are "go car," "bacon," and "play." 

Before Millie came into my life, I'd forgotten how to have fun.

Now, fun is part of every day.

I know you love your dog too - even when she or he misbehaves.  

You feel a deep connection to him or her - and to the people your dog brings into your life when you go out walking. Neighbors, passers-by, future friends. Because dog owners have a great deal in common.

Screens may be taking over our lives,

but our dogs reconnect us to an ancient, in-person mode. 

Our dogsalso connects us to a healthier lifestyle by making you get exercise.

Doctors tell us to walk 10,000 steps per day if we can. One single walk with your dog could get you half the way there. When you're outside, you're breathing fresh air and getting sun - which increases your Vitamin D levels.

Even when you're walking your dog under the stars! Continous exposure to the beauties of nature makes us happier people. 

What about when we're indoors?

Millie won't let me sit at my computer all day like I did before I adopted her. She comes and sits down with her little stuffed toy and stares at me until I stand up. If I ignore her, she whimpers. Quietly at first. Then, more loudly. Eventually, I give in.

Maybe your dog does something similiar?

I used to be impatient with Millie when she did this. Not any more. Why? Because sitting too long is toxic to your health. Standing and stretching for just a few minutes rejuvenates and restores us. I always sit back down feeling less stressed.

And when you're refreshed, you do better work.
